There were no serious rail accidents in Finland in 2014. There were no accidents in train traffic or shunting operations resulting in deaths among passengers or personnel.

There was a substantial decline in shunting deviations and damage involving the rolling stock. There was an increase in the number of safety observations and safety briefings.

Even though VR Group did not quite achieve its accident frequency target (18.0 accidents per million hours worked), in other respects there were positive developments in occupational safety during the year. The number of serious workplace accidents was halved.
